I can never resist a drive up to “ BRT” or “Biligiriranga Swamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary” from Bangalore! The route via Kanakapura and Kollegal is superb. Fine roads, less traffic and before you know it, you are climbing up the hill!
Early February 2013, I made a quick visit to Ooty to bag the beautiful “Kashmir Flycatcher”!
On the 11th of February, a surprise visitor I was able to shoot right next to my house in Bangalore!
A short visit to “BRT” proved quite productive. My good friend Manjunath, my son Arnav and myself drove up to BRT and checked into JLR on the 28th of February. On the way, just before we entered Kollegal we spied a beautiful European Bee-eater!
The evening safari produced a lovely “Yellow-legged Quail”
Over dinner, was very happy to meet with Mr. S S Lingaraja who had just taken over as the Park Director.
Next day, after the morning safari (1st of March), we checked into “Giridarshini Home Stay” just outside the park, very near the famous “BRT Temple”. Here, Arun Venkatapur, Manu Mahesh and Arun Urs joined us and the five of use were able to shoot good images of some common birds of the area.
Next day we moved down to Mysore and visited the “Hadinaru Kere” along with Kulashekara for some lovely views of a couple of hundred “Bar-headed Goose” settled in the water.
That night we spent at Arun Venkatapur’s house in Mysore. The next morning we made a visit to “Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary” before driving back to Bangalore!
Three good days of birding!
